FXTM Brand Ambassador Prepares for his Greatest Challenge
#FXTMGoesBlue
The Long Swim is set to begin in less than two weeks, and Lewis Pugh has been preparing hard for what he believes will be the toughest swim of his life.
Why will this be the most difficult challenge for the UN Patron of the Oceans?
- Lewis will be swimming in only his Speedo trunks, a cap and a pair of goggles
- At 560KM, swimming the full length of the English Channel will be Lewis’ longest swim to date
- The average water temperature in the Channel is 14-18 °C – Lewis plans to average 5 hours a day in it for about 50 days, making it one of the coldest swims of his life
- The English Channel is the world’s busiest shipping lane – making the sea extra congested
- Tides and weather will play a key factor; if Lewis doesn’t get the timing just right he may find himself swimming backwards
To prepare for this challenge, Lewis has been swimming up to 7KM a day in South Africa and in the English Channel just outside Eastbourne.
He aims to increase his weight to 100kg in order to be well insulated for the challenge.
Tune in to Sky News on 9 July @ 8:30PM (GMT +1) to watch a half-hour documentary about the rigorous training and preparation that Lewis has been doing.
FXTM is honoured to be the Lead Partners of The Long Swim, which will be officially launched with a media event at the Institute of Civil Engineers in London, UK on 10 July.
