Question: My MT4/MT5 trading platform’s frozen. What should I do?
Please try to shut down your platform and restart it.
If this does not work, please remove any indicators or Expert Advisors from your platform if you’re using these. Then please try to restart your platform.
If your platform is still not functioning correctly, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the platform.
Please find instructions below to uninstall and reinstall your platform:
- If you have any profilestemplatesindicatorsEAs that you’d like to maintain, please back up those files first. You should find them stored at C:Program FilesMetaTrader 4.
- It’s also advisable to back up the MT4 logs folder before uninstalling the application so that you keep a copy for your records. The default location is C:Program FilesMetaTrader 4logs
- Uninstall the MetaTrader 4 through the Control Panel and delete the MetaTrader 4 file from Program Files
- The location is usually C:users<user>AppDataLocalVirtualStore. AppData is a hidden directory, so you may need to change your folder settings to make it visible. Please ensure MT4 is fully removed also from this location.
- Then please download the MT4 set-up file and then go through the installation process. Once the installation is complete, cut the folders of the profilestemplatesindicatorsEAs that you backed up (step 1), if applicable, and paste them back in to MetaTrader folder in Program Files.
