Question: What does “Off quotes” error message mean on MT4/MT5 platforms?
There are mainly 2 cases when the “Off Quotes” message appears on MT4 platform.
1. Orders that don’t follow the rule
Any order that breaches a limit set by the broker, will be rejected by the server, which can result in an ”Off quotes” message.
For example, if you have a live account where the limit on the total size of your open positions is 10.0 lots at any given time, but you or your trading program request for a position with larger volume, that position may be cancelled and the “Off Quotes” message appear.
XM has specified all conditions in their ‘Contract Specification’ table in the official website.
2. Connection Error
In other cases, “Off quotes” usually indicates a break in connectivity resulting in no current prices being available.
If your MT4 platform wasn’t connected to any markets due to some problem(on your side, broker’s trading server or MT4 server), your order won’t be executed.
Unlike the “re-quote” message, your order will be cancelled completely in this case.
This condition also depends on your broker if the error will occur or not.
If you are struggling with this problem, you may be able to avoid this error by choosing a STP/ECN brokers.
